Facebook has taken down a meme relating to a former Stanford University swimmer who was convicted of rape.
Brock Turner’s case gained notoriety after his father’s letter to a judge, which described the assault as ‘20 minutes of action’, was posted online.
People were also unhappy the 20-year-old received just six months in prison, despite three convictions.

Several Facebook users were further angered when the social network took down the above ‘My name is Brock, I’m a rapist’ meme from at least two separate accounts:

Facebook has said it did not purposefully remove the meme.
‘This content was removed in error, and we are currently working to restore it,’ a Facebook spokesperson told gizmodo.com.
‘Our team processes millions of reports each week, and we sometimes get things wrong. We’re very sorry about this mistake.’

Meanwhile the pressure is building on the California judge who sentenced Turner to six months in prison after he was found guilty of sexually penetrating an intoxicated and unconscious person with a foreign object, digital rape, and assault with intent to rape.
United States senator Barbara Boxer decried Santa Clara County Judge Aaron Persky’s decision.
Asked for a comment on the controversy over his ruling, Santa Clara Superior Court spokesman Joseph Macaluso said Judge Persky was prohibited from commenting on the case because there may be an appeal.
The victim’s name has not been released to the public.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Facebook for a further comment.
This June 27, 2011, photo shows Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky, who drew criticism for sentencing former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner to only six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. The swimmer's father, Dan Turner, ignited more outrage by writing in a letter to the judge that his son already has paid a steep price for "20 minutes of action." Dan Turner wrote that his son's conviction on three felony sexual assault charges has shattered the 20-year-old, who has lost his appetite. The letter was made public over the weekend by a Stanford law professor who wants Persky removed from office because of the sentence. (Jason Doiy/The Recorder via AP) MANDATORY CREDIT
