More than 50 people have been evacuated from a London high-rise block of flats after a blaze engulfed the lower floors.
Smoke
was sent billowing out of the 16-storey property on Canterbury
Crescent, Brixton, which could be seen for miles around the capital on
Saturday.
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said they were called at around 1.20pm and that the blaze was under control by 2.44pm. He said they took 36 emergency calls in relation to the fire.

At its height, 10 fire engines and 72 firefighters were tackling the blaze which is thought to have originated in a ground floor flat. The fire also damaged flats on the next two floors.
The LFB spokesman said the cause of the blaze is yet to be established and is being investigated.
