This guy managed to play basketball even though he didn’t have a heart

This guy played basketball even though he didn’t have a heart.

And when we say heart we don’t mean determination.
Stan Larkin, 25, would actually shoot hoops with a 13.5 pound ‘artificial heart’ strapped to his back, which amazed his doctors at the University of Michigan.
The Syncardia device was connected to his cardiovascular system for 555 days straight.
‘This wasn’t made for pick-up basketball. Stan pushed the envelope with this technology,’ his surgeon Jonathan Haft said.

But Larkin, who eventually received a human heart on May 9, was more humble about his accomplishments.
‘I got the transplant two weeks ago and I feel like I could take a jog as we speak,’ he told Michigan Live.
‘I’ll probably run a few pick-up games, but not right away.’

He suffered from familial cardiomyopathy, along with his brother Dominique who also received a transplant.
Larkin added: ‘I want to thank the donor who gave themselves for me. I’d like to meet their family one day. Hopefully they’d want to meet me.’
He became the first person to be allowed to go home from hospital with just a synthetic heart.
